Life is about adapting to changes. In
this game, failing to do so results in your own downfall. Adapting to your
surroundings is actually pretty easy, contrary to popular beliefs. The first
creatures that emerged from the seas adapt and change according to their
surrounding. They grow legs instead of fins and lungs instead of gills. This
process is called evolution and it is an excruciatingly slow process catalysed
by natural selection. The results, land creatures began to emerge and overtime,
our species Homo Sapiens rule the earth. We humans have been adapting to our
surroundings for centuries now. For instance, the cavemen invented tools to
make their daily lives better. They use stone shivs to cut meat and defend
themselves from wild animals. Currently in the 21st century, us, the
modern humans, invent gadgets and devices beyond our wildest imagination to
help us even with petty tasks in our daily lives.
These amazing examples of how
creatures are able to adapt to their surroundings should be a lesson to us. We
humans grow everyday. From out humble beginnings as a baby, we grow into
toddlers, then into adolescents and finally our body reach maturehood and we
become what people nowdays call adults. Reaching adulthood is not just about
growing physically, but also mentally, emotionally and spiritually. When our
body grow, our minds should also grow proportionately. Greater minds means that
we are able to adapt to our ever changing surroundings easier. It will make us
sharper and more quick witted. Our minds will be able to asses a problem, calculate
the risks and then project a rational reaction to the problem accurately.
Without a developed mind, an individual would not be able to do so.
The reason why I am writing all this
is because recently, I was admitted to a pre-university foundation program at
UiTM Shah Alam and I am proud to say that I am a member of the law faculty
here. Blissful is the accurate word to desribe my feelings here. I have great
friends, the food is good, the seniors are well-mannered and so on. But, I am
sad to say that most of my batch mates are not matured enough to adapt and
change according to their surroundings. This is not high school anymore. There
are no teachers to guide us. All the work including registering for our own
course is our own responsibility. Here, we do all the things on our own. But
sadly, they(most of my batch mates) act like children, waiting to be spoon fed
for everything. Their behaviour is unacceptable for a student their age. We,
the so called teenagers that are going to reach adulthood, must think and act
like a grown man. Respect others and be responsible of our own actions. We
should not act like monkeys in a lecture. We should not interrupt our seniors
when they are talking, and, we should never ever be rude to our elders. What
the hell happened to our Malay culture that we are so proud of?
